Harris believes that even the idea that the free will is an illusion is false. In one podcast episode, he invites his listeners to take part in a thought experiment where they think of a movie. The thought of the movie did not arise from nothing. There is no “extra part” of us that originates action from nothing.
Our selves — our ego — is only so much a thing to that consciousness as any other thing. We often think of our self as making sense of the world around us, that we have an inner, complete self that is sitting in the theatre of the brain.
