Social identity helps humans feel they belong and becomes their pride/core of their persona. People with weaker personal identity often have a strong social identity as it helps them fit in and often react violently when their social identity is ridiculed or questioned.
Human Cloud Humans have 2 identities. Personal and social. Personal identity are things like I am a female/father/daughter/single etc. Social identity is where humans act like cloud servers and accept and assume a common identity to come together and form cohesion.
Social identity is as old as humans and allows humans to fit in their immediate society. It can range from I am a Muslim, I am a fan of Ranveer Singh, I salute American Flag, I am Bhakt of Shiva, I am promoter of Tamil, I am a feminist, I am animal lover etc.
It’s not surprising people attack others when questioned about god or religion or country or leaders as to them it feels like a personal attack. They can’t decouple personal and social identity.
Brands also act on principles of social identity. You don’t buy Apple. You buy a membership in club of people who use Apple. Apple thus feels more like a cult than a product.
Country like India has several social identities due to its history and politicians take huge advantage. From affiliation to caste to Shivaji to Ambekar to Gandhi to religion to language to state. Social identity becomes like a human button used to maneuver votes/opinions/actions
A good manipulator can make humans do amazing things and cause progress. A very good manipulator can even make humans annihilate other humans who don’t belong to their own social identity.
