You can. Take a look at this function in the train_util library of kohya's scripts. It uses this function to generate a sample while it is training (e.g. at every epoch) https://github.com/kohya-ss/sd-scripts/blob/main/gen_img_diffusers.py#L575 You can use the same pipeline to also do predictions programmatically with the final lora. No merging required!
